The Druk Chirwang Tshogpa (DCT) candidates are in their respective constituencies and busy campaigning for the fast-approaching primary round of National Assembly elections. The Khar-Yurung DCT candidate designate Sonam Penjor is in his constituency under Pema Gatshel and he started campaigning from Dungmaed on May 14.

PDP candidates and members meet before setting out on their campaign missions

  Around 700 members and candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from all dzongkhags attended its annual party convention held in the YDF Hall, Thimphu on 9th May, before leaving for their respective demkhongs (constituencies) to campaign. Many issues and concerns were raised during the convention.  “We are people’s party, we are not rich,” said PDP president Tshering Tobgay in his speech to the members. He urged the members and candidates to work in accord with the Constitution, and to work hard with sincerity and respect to gain the people’s trust

A new deputy NC chairperson, councilor Tshering Dorji was unanimously elected by all 25 members In an election conducted by the election commission yesterday morning, National Council members elected the former Deputy Chair and Trashigang council representative, Dasho Dr Sonam Kinga as its Chairperson and Haa council member Tshering Dorji as the Deputy Chairperson. The Chairperson was elected over two other veterans, Pemagatshel council member Jigme Rinzin and Gasa council member Sangay Khandu all of whom presented their credentials to their colleagues the day before

Parties start their campaign engines

After the acceptance of the Letters of Intent (LoI) from the political parties by the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), four political parties have made it, and are geared up and going full steam with works on the election campaigns for the primary round of the National Assembly (NA) elections on 31 May, 2013. The Druk Chirwang Tshogpa (DCT) and its candidates are busy these days, with campaign strategy meetings. The DCT President Lily Wangchhuk said that 47 candidates will leave for their respective constituencies from today

Anti- incumbency backlash as only 6 incumbent MPs make it back

No women NC candidates elected In what came as a surprise verdict of the National Council (NC) Elections out of the 20 dzongkhags, only 6 incumbent MPs made it back, with the rest of the incumbent MPs losing their seats in the Upper House. The voter turnout this year is around 45 percent, which is lesser than the NC Elections in 2008, where the voter turnout was recorded at 53 percent.  There were 380,099 voters registered for the NC Elections in 2013.
